Passwords & Process Priority for GW in WinXP
Question: How can I set GW.exe to run at a Priority higher than low?
And, how can I have my password automatically entered in? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -) So, Thief made a most useful post about how to edit your Guild Wars shortcut, so that your password would be automatically entered. The instructions involve getting into the shortcut's properties, and adding -password=meep into the Target field. However, this is not working for me. Alas. And the following paragraphs on Priority may have something to do with it.... -) I have tried to force GW.exe to operate at some level higher than Low. My computer seems to like dropped it to Low randomly, and I'd like to be able to keep it to at LEAST normal, but preferably Above Normal or High. Currently, I have the my desktop shortcut pointing to the file GW.bat, which is in the same folder as GW.exe. That bat file contains the following line: cmd /c start /AboveNormal Gw.exe I got this off Google; but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. Someone make it better? Please? I'd really like to both be able to run GW.exe without it bogging down, AND to have my password automatically entered.... Last edited by Redly; May 19, 2006 at 08:20 PM // 20:20.. |

You cannot control on which priority Guild Wars run on.
Put it on windowed mode, and open task manager somewhere where you see it. Make GW active, process priority goes to 'Normal'. Make any other program active, process priority goes to 'Low'. No way around the 'feature' tho... |

The -password= line DOES WORK, but has to be in the target of a shortcut to gw.exe, not gw.bat
My line goes something like: ""C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -password=password -heapsize 512000" *of course my password isn't really password* Heapsize also serves no real function when you have more than about 512 RAM, but I like to allocate half to it anyways. |

I, in fact, have precisely 512 MB of RAM in this laptop, upgradable to 2GB in the future.
So, what is this Heapsize parameter? I'm guessing that's in Kilobytes? So, on this machine of 512MB, perhaps I should heapsize... 300,000, maybe? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In other news, I edited the GW.bat to read cmd /c start /AboveNormal Gw.exe -password "[MEEP]", and it automatically logged me in and everything. YAY! One hurdle down, one to go... Last edited by Redly; May 19, 2006 at 11:16 PM // 23:16.. |

You should go out and buy a stick of 512 or better yet a 1gb stick ram is fairly cheep these days unless you have one of those freaky dells with the wierd french ram in it then its godly anyways i picked up a stick of 1gb 3200 for like $85 canadian dollars The above statement was semi satiracl semi serious lol I really dont know how GW would run at that low ram when i built my main machine I was heavily inot SWG wich was a 1gb minimum so i have 2.5 gb inside and my laptop 1.5 seems to run everything smooth and was the cheepest component you can buy to squeeze power out of your pc I also dont alocate anything i just use the password syntax |
